A great place for loyalty free icons is deviantart.com where users themselves create the icons to display and share with others. When downloading icons, you can also comment on the work if you like it.
To locate icons quickly, all that you need to do is search for the word icons on Deviant Art. A few of the loveliest high quality icons that you can find on Deviant Art, influens icons, eico, translucent HD drives icons, Dozi Extreme icons and HydroPRO v2.
You may need to convert PNG files to ICO icon format. There are two ways to do this, either use the free download MyPng2ico or use the free website Convertico.
The Simple Way
The simple way is to add autorun.inf files into the root of the drive. This of course will not work for optical drives such as DVD-ROM drives, since CD/DVD media will need to contain such a file to make it work. Next time you pop in a CHIP or DIGIT DVD, have a look, an autorun.inf file is specifying an icon.
In order to do this...
1. Open Notepad and copy paste this text below
[autorun]
icon=download.ico
download.ico is only an example, replace that with whatever is the name of the actual icon that you are placing, but don't forget to add the extension .ico at the end.
2. Now save the text file with the name autorun.inf, choose Save As Type as All Files. If you don't do this you'll get autorun.inf.txt, which is incorrect and the tweak will not work.
3. Place the autorun.inf file as well as the icon in the root of the directory, meaning if I'm modifying F drive, I should just place both files there and not in a separate folder.
4. Now hit F5 on the keyboard when in My Computer and voila, your icon should appear.
Note that you can use this special method for USB drives too!
